At StormyEyed Project, we believe that those who create value should have their fair share of equity.
A noble cause, you might say. But what does that have to do with crypto and NFTs?

A little context first: Dreamscapes was our first exploration of combining circus disciplines with digital art in the context of the NFT space. The pandemic ravaged the circus community and deprived artists of their usual income streams - with no weddings, live shows, corporate events, or studios to perform and teach at, many were forced to find other ways of sustaining themselves as event spaces across the country shut down. COVID-19 has been hard on all of us, but it doesn't have to mean that the performing arts needs to return to the status quo in order to continue delighting audiences with amazing feats of strength, flexibility, and artistry.

Our inaugural collection of 1x1 NFTs was the first of its kind, to our knowledge, to feature aerialists as both the subjects of the NFT and the ones owning the entire creative and minting process. The launch was a proof of concept to show that there is a space for performance arts in this area, but also to show the circus community (which skews more female and less likely to be early adopters) that this new ecosystem has the potential to radically change how performing artists create and share their work. We don’t mean just financially, although of course that’s part of the allure - but also artistically, in that artists would have the freedom to create without being constrained by the usual gatekeepers and powers that be.

What would that look like?
It would look like guaranteeing artists fair compensation for their work and their likeness. It would look like making a living without having to weigh if performing with unsafe equipment and under sketchy working conditions is worth the money, or wonder if it’s worth calling out clients who refuse to pay at the risk of “burning bridges”. It would look like being valued and celebrated for their artistic excellence, and not being reduced to the question of whether their ass can fit into a costume (yes, that’s actual feedback one of our coaches received when she was rejected by Cirque du Soleil). It would look like an opportunity for performers to thrive in the new creator economy, without being beholden to a product, a business, or someone else’s vision.
